Linear Shift

Obsidian Ember operates in the deepest register of the Linear Shift series — a surface of near-black and charred warm tones that appears monolithic at distance and reveals its structure only as you approach. The fiberglass form is painted in successive layers using a tape-mask technique, each color pass building toward the final dark field before the tape is removed to expose each stripe's edge. Light crossing the sphere's curve surfaces undertones of amber and oxide that read as heat against the surrounding shadow — a shift between volcanic dark and controlled warmth that changes with the angle of view. A gloss resin seal reinforces the depth, making the surface read more like polished stone than applied paint. Obsidian Ember is the most architecturally demanding piece in the series — a point of genuine weight on any wall.
