Where Matter Breaks | Black Mass
Overview
Where Matter Breaks: Black Mass is a circular illuminated wall composition defined by density, fracture, and restrained luminosity. The disciplined round form contains an intricate network of hand-painted cracks that spread across a darkened surface like tectonic fissures suspended in time. In its unlit state, the canvas reads as a deep, matte black mass traced with subtle mineral veining, emphasizing contrast between shadowed depth and raised fracture lines. When activated, the integrated light box ignites the web of cracks from within, transforming the surface into a field of glowing gold fissures that appear suspended against darkness. The illumination remains controlled and architectural rather than decorative, casting a measured halo that reinforces the circular geometry. The tactile cracked texture interacts with the internal glow to create layered depth, revealing both recess and relief. Spatially, the piece commands presence through contrast and luminosity, suited for interiors that favor sculptural light and elemental abstraction.
