Dune Drift is a hand-built paper relief in the Dune Collection — hundreds of individual layered paper tiles constructing a surface where color shifts from cooled ivory through deep amber gold into a saturated burnt orange at the center register. The tonal transition is the load-bearing element: where the cooler ivory and amber fields give way to the warm orange register, the color shift carries an architectural weight that makes scale legible across a room. Paper as a relief material behaves differently from ceramic or metal — the tiles absorb ambient light rather than reflecting it, which gives the color a matte depth that reads as material rather than pigment on a flat support. At distance the piece reads as a field painting; at proximity the tile construction becomes legible, and the layered relief adds a quiet three-dimensionality that resists compression into photography. Enclosed in a clear acrylic float frame, the work presents itself as an object with visible edges and dimensional presence rather than a framed image.
