Discharge | Ion
Overview
Discharge: Ion is constructed as a layered diffusion of light rather than a surface image. A pink LED light source is positioned beneath a colored canvas, using the material itself as a filter to soften, distort, and modulate the glow. The canvas does not carry imagery; it controls color density and falloff, shaping how light disperses upward through the field.
This illuminated core is housed within a frosted acrylic enclosure designed to further blur edges and remove any sense of direct emission. The acrylic acts as a final diffusion layer, allowing pink and violet tones to merge and expand into a soft, charged gradient. What remains visible is not the light source, but its pressure—contained, atmospheric, and unresolved.
Discharge: Ion is a wall-mounted light object that exists between artwork and illumination. It introduces color through depth, glow through restraint, and presence through controlled diffusion rather than brightness.
